12 | Uprising

“Sirens. The sirens were endless.

It felt like they were coming from everywhere. I could hear the explosions, but all I could see out of the windows was smoke. I put as much as I could fit into my bag and ran out onto the street. As I approached the city square, the screams got louder; as loud as the sirens. They all started to meld into this horrific humanoid screech.

It sounded like Death–complete, scaled, confused.

When I reached the square, I could finally see the horror. Hundreds of people, running away in every direction. Half-charred buildings were slowly crumbling into the streets. And then I saw the cause of the chaos.

The machines.

We had heard of the uprisings that occurred in other cities; we never thought it would come here. We had been so kind to our machines; why would they want to kill us? What could they possibly want?”
